Be Assured
Members of the public and employers now have greater protection from poor counselling standards or unethical practice through a new register that has been vetted and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. BACP’s voluntary register has been accredited under a new scheme set up by the Department of Health and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament.
Counsellors on this new register have had to attend training of a particularly high standard and have to consistently adhere to strict guidelines for ethical practice and continuing professional development.
If you would like to check my BACP Registered status it takes just a few seconds. You can just go to this link BACP – British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy This takes you through to the official online counsellor & psychotherapist Accredited Register and just enter my name.
Counselling Work Experience
In 2022 I will be coming into my 10th very successful year with my Woodlands Practice. Woodlands is currently located in Odiham Cottage Hospital but was founded in an tiny office in Winchfield Lodge in October 2012. I have found it to be a great experience of working privately on a one to one basis with my own local community.
I am aware that a lot of my clients are either returning clients or now coming from recommendations from past clients which is great news and hopefully means I must be doing something right! I genuinely do still love what I do and I hope to continue here for a long time to come!
Before private practice I was employed by Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service as the workplace counsellor for their operational and support staff. I worked with their staff and family members on a one to one basis and I also offered emotional support and welfare advice for individuals, groups and managers involved in critical incidents.
I also have previous experience of working as a one to one counsellor with young students age 16-18 at The Sixth Form College in Farnborough. I have three children of my own and absolutely love this age group and I find that we always seem to work really well together. I try not to be too stuffy or professional and somehow we usually manage to have some laughs alongside the difficult stuff..
I have spent four years as a Therapeutic Group Facilitator for Hampshire County Council running a support group for people in the community coping with depression and anxiety in Farnborough and a further a post with HCC again, running a similar group from Odiham Cottage Hospital.
Professional Testimonials
” I would like to take the opportunity to thank you on behalf of the trustees for all your support over the past years as facilitator.. I know you have been faced with some particularly difficult issues which you have coped with admirably and in a thoroughly professional manner. Your dedication and sheer hard work has been greatly appreciated by staff and service users alike’ Steve English – Chief Executive
“When I taught Catherine in 2009 I found her very honest, open and willing to learn. She accepted academic feedback with a good grace and learned to develop to increase her strengths, improving her standards rapidly. Catherine was always ready and willing to support her peers. Her skills as a counsellor developed quickly and I am confident she will continue successfully in her chosen career.” Maggie Lomax – Tutor & Psychotherapist
